sold out

Babe Station’s free workshops at Phlox Books, Leyton offer an inclusive and non-judgemental space for new mothers to explore and discuss their experiences of motherhood through writing.

Please register (FREE) here so we can manage numbers for our next group!

Led by writer Millie Walton with her baby, Arlo, each session will use a poem or extract from a novel or work of non-fiction as a jumping off point for informal group discussion followed by a short creative writing exercise. The workshop will take place at 11am. No writing experience is necessary and babies are very welcome! Due to limited space at Phlox, we encourage those who are able to bring their babies in slings or carriers.

The workshops are welcoming of mothers and non-binary people who self-identify as mothers, including those who adopt, foster, use a surrogate, are the non-birthing mother within a Queer relationship or are step mothers.

Babe Station is an evolving research project exploring the relationship between making art and motherhood. The project was initiated by writer Millie Walton following the birth of her son Arlo and aims to build a community that supports and promotes the creative practices of any person who identifies as a mother or has experienced child loss through discussions, workshops, exhibitions and publications. The project is particularly interested in interdisciplinary practices and non-traditional art forms.

Phlox Books knows a thing or two about motherhood and creative drive!
Phlox was founded by Aimée Madill in 2017, with a little one in a sling as she served up the best books, booze and coffee to Francis Road. You will now find Aimée in the shop, trailed by her 3 book loving offspring. Come and settle in for this session with Millie, in our friendly shop with delicious coffee and expert booksellers on hand to introduce to great adult titles and our beautiful children's section.
